The ´Gouden Kalf´, or Golden Calf, is the Dutch equivalent to the Oscars. The Kalf has been awarded annually since the introduction in 1981. Why a calf? Well, according to the film maker Wim Verstappen, who came up with this idea, Venice had lions and Berlin bears, so why not a calf for Holland?
